Freshers' Handbook

(plus a warm welcome from us)

Assalaamu alaikum, Peace be upon you!

Dear Freshers,

Welcome to Imperial and to the next chapter of your lives!

First and foremost a huge CONGRATULATIONS for surviving the gauntlet of UCAS applications and making it into one of the best universities in the world! On behalf of the Islamic Society, we welcome you and wish you an exciting and fruitful year, as well as a university experience that will be insha'Allah unforgettable (for all the right reasons!)

During freshers' week, we are here to make the daunting transition between home and uni life easier and provide support and company throughout the year whether it be for social, spiritual or academic purposes.

University life is often seen as a period of self-discovery and personal development. These years will shape the person you become, and we believe that your growth as an individual is far more significant than the achievements or qualifications you acquire. So, while it may feel overwhelming, think of it as an opportunity to paint a beautiful future on a blank canvas, and we are here to lend you a helping hand along the way. Embrace the multitude of opportunities available to you, try new activities, participate in sports, explore your spirituality, attend social events, and most importantly, build meaningful friendships. The activities you engage in and the people you surround yourself with will shape your identity and character. It's easy to get consumed by your studies, so from the very beginning, strive for a balanced, productive, and active lifestyle.

Remember, as your brothers, sisters, and fellow students, we promise to stand by your side through the ups and downs of this phase in your life. Don't hesitate to reach out to any one of us whenever you need assistance—we are here to support you to the best of our abilities. This year holds endless pleasures and opportunities for you to explore. Let's make the most of it together!

Welcome to University. Welcome to London. Welcome to Imperial.
